OVERVIEW
This course provides an overview of Instrumentation & Controls used in Oil & Gas and petrochemical industry. This course covers basics of Instrumentation & control, understanding of P&ID, Type and use of different Instruments and wide variety of control system used in the industry.

DESIGNED FOR
Non I&C Engineers, Mechanical, Facilities and Project Engineers as well as newly graduated Electrical, Controls and Instrument Engineers who need to improve their basic understanding of instrumentation and control systems within oil and gas/petrochemical industry.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • What is Instrumentation & Controls
  • Introduction to Control systems theory
  • Background and importance of Instrumentation & Controls in modern industry
  • Introduction to I & C Key terminologies like BPCS, DCS , SIS, BMS , SPI , HMI
  • Understanding of I & C key deliverables including P & ID, Data sheets, Cause and Effect diagrams etc
  • Instrument and Controls system symbols , Codes , Standards and Practices
  • Field measurement devices including process parameters like Level, Pressure, Temperature and Flow
  • Final elements and actuators including control loops, control valves, shutdown valves, actuators, transducers
  • Introduction to PLC , DCS and SCADA based controls
  • Conventional Wiring /Communication methods, Hard wire, Fieldbus and Profibus
  • Hazardous areas and equipment selection
  • Job market and opportunities

INSTRUCTOR
Mahmood Abbasi, P.Eng. PMP

Mahmood Abbasi is a professional Engineer with 30 years experience in instrumentation and control systems Design, Construction and Maintenance. He has extensive experience in Conceptual, FEED and Detail design engineering for the development and upgrading of oil & Gas upstream plant, Oil and Gas gathering facilities, Wellhead flow lines, Refineries, Oil terminals, petrochemical Fertilizer and Power Generation industry. He supervised Design , construction, commissioning and startup of mega projects in Canada as well as outside Canada .He holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering & technology Lahore Pakistan. He is also a registered professional engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Alberta and Ontario and affiliated with APEGA & PEO respectively and a senior member of ISA (International Society of Automation).
