OVERVIEW
This course provides an overview of the most demanding technology used in Alberta for extraction of Heavy Oil.
Either you are the individual who have just started work in SAGD related projects or experienced engineers who have been working in SAGD for many years but never got the chance to grasp a “high level picture” of SAGD plants.
The main segments of SAGD facility i.e. well pads, gathering pipelines and CPF (Central Processing Facility) will be covered. You will learn design criteria, typical sizes, technology comparison and rule of thumb.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • What is Enhanced Oil Recovery?
  • Why SAGD is most popular and proven technology in Alberta?
  • How does SAGD work?
  • Terminology and Acronyms used in SAGD
  • What to inject into reservoir and what comes out form it? (Well Pads)
  • How to separate water from Bitumen? (Bitumen Treatment)
  • When and Why Diluent is injected?
  • How to remove Oil from Water? (De-oiling)
  • Why we need Water Treatment? What are the qualities of water for steam generation?
  • Difference between Traditional water treatment Vs. Evaporation Technology
  • What is OTSG? How does it work?  (Steam Generation)
  • How much make-up water is required for a SAGD facility?
  • Utilities and Auxiliaries needed for SAGD facility
  • What are the environmental aspects? Emissions and Disposal?
  • How to calculate quickly steam requirement, diluent, make-up water, no. of OTSGs etc.
